    Problem using SLI

    Hey everybody!

I just bought a couple of new graphics cards for my computer and I cannot get them to work correctly using SLI. Here is a quick runthrough of my situation:

    1. Install one of the cards, boot to WXP, run the nvidia driver update (Although I don't think it changes the driver). Everything is just fine. I can play games, surf the net, do whatever, no problems.

    2. Shut down computer. Install second card as well as SLI bridge. Restart computer.

    3. WXP boots and an NVIDIA window automaticaly opens. It says that two graphics cards and a bridge are installed correctly and asks if I want to enable SLI mode. Click yes. Everything is great. Restart computer.

    4. WXP begins to load. At the black screen with the XP logo and the small scrolling bar, my screen flashes for a second and has about a dozen thin multicolored lines across the top half of the screen. This goes away quickly and then is followed almost immediately by my screen going black. The light on my monitor flashes similar to when I shut off the computer and leave my monitor on. My computer is (presumably) still loading WXP, the HD light runs for ten seconds or so and then stops like normal (I think it is sitting at the desktop then but I can't see anything).

    5. If I do a hard restart, the same thing happens. If I shut down the computer and remove the second card and bridge, computer works fine.

    Here are some relevant stats:
-Running Windows XP up to date
    -AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor
-ECS KN3 SLI2 (1.0) Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
    -Two G.SKILL 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
-Two ZOGIS Geforce 7600GS 512MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
    -Antec Earthwatts EA500 500W ATX12V v2.0 PSU

Enabling SLI usually shuts off the monitor connection. Usually a restart/reset will bring it back with the notification of SLI enabled.

If this does not happen you might try a different port for the monitor. Perhaps the second card.

While you are troubleshooting it should not be necessary to remove the second card: just the bridge and the single card should work as well.

Well, I'm not really sure if my system is working sli or not. I installed the second card and the bridge and turned on the machine. Got into WXP and went through the NVIDIA desktop to enable SLI. Monitor went black for one or two seconds and came back. I got the "Your settings have changed, do you want to keep this configuration" and clicked yes. That's where I'm at right now. I haven't restarted yet. I was trying to figure out how I can tell if my computer is running in sli mode or not. Oh well, I guess I'll restart and see what happens.

You should have an icon on the system tray by the clock. Like a yellow rectangle. nVidia controls. It should state that SLI is enabled.

It just dawned on me what you were telling me in your last post. I shut off the computer and removed the vid card in slot 1 and moved the vid card from slot 2 into slot 1 and hooked up my monitor. Restarted the computer and it was pretty obvious there is something major wrong with card #2. I had colorful lines all across the screen and the computer restarted itself while loading WXP. Guess I have to send the one card back, glad i've got another one so my computer isnt down in the meantime. Thanks for your help, I will be back to update my progress.
