I have had some problems with USB ports. After some anguish these now appear correctly in device manager but they still don't work. There is an error in the Intel 82801/DB/DBM SMbus controller (whatever that is). I have downloaded and installed the Intel chipset installation utility and the Intel inf update program. Neither of which seem to help.
When I try to reinstall the SMbus controller I get a message that says there is an error with the installation file - it's missing a necessary entry and that this may be because the INF was written for Windows 95.
I have been working on this for hours and have run out of options (and sanity). Can anyone help? Please?

Thanks but I have decided to bite the bullet and reformat and reinstall everything. I've been meaning to do it for a while and this problem has pushed me into it. I could well be back with a bunch more questions!
