The plate like thing where in we put our dvd/cds in a dvd writer is not going back in. Can this be sorted out on my own, if so what shall i do.

Turn off the computer and try sticking a pin or unfolded paper clip into the pin-hole on the front of the drive. This is a manual open/close. Do Not do this with the power ON. Turn it OFF.

That being said is the drive light working? Is it getting power when you boot?

yeah power supply is there for the dvd drive. Actually the plate goes in to a certain extent and then comes back automatically.
