    Re: Nvidia Graphics Card problem

I am having a recurring problem with my pc locking up ever since i installed my Nvidia 6800GT card. It only happens when I'm playing games. It doesn't matter if it's a high graphic retail game or an online shockwave flash game. A few minutes into the game the computer will freeze. My system info is:
    AMD Athlon 2700
    1 gig RAM
    Windows XP
I have removed and reinstalled the driver 3 times but it still happens. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

    Check your settings via:

    start Run... dxdiag

    Do you have DirectX 9.0c?

Also open the Display tab and test the 3D tests.

Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.

Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:

Thanks for that advice. I did find many yellow and many red marks. Some said Application hang, some said CA_LIC, some said Application error, many said nview_info.

Event ID is a basic starting point to specify errors:

nview_info is nVidia software/drivers. If you have already uninstalled and reinstalled all nVidia software/drivers then perhaps try to disable nview_info which is just a setup/monitoring aspect of the software.

Can you tell me where to disable nview_info?

You all might be interested to know that I read another thread about a possible conflict between graphics cards and anti virus programs. I'm not a geek so i'm not sure how that can happen, however....I disabled my virus program and I have been playing over 12 hours without freezing up. Maybe this will mean something to someone. I just feel that I found the culprit. I think it's time to change programs. I am currently using Inoculate. Does anyone have any comments about that?

Inoculate is an antivirus program? havent heard of it. i usually just use AVG Antivirus or Norton, though i've heard that Norton screws up your computer and isn't recommendable.

i think most people would recommend AVG. i've tried Kaspersky before. it's pretty good but costs a bundle.

mind if you give a little detail about the Antivirus and Graphics conflict issue? it'd be nice to know.

I'm told that Inoculate is an old anti virus program, one of the first. I still have had no problems since i disabled it so it's history.
