My DVD-RW drive just stopped working and isn't showing up in My Computer or Device Manager. It has power and the eject mechanism works fine, it just can't do anything with CDs or DVDs of any kind. Any ideas?

Spec: Acer Aspire 5670 laptop (no upgrades), Win XP Home

Is it detected in the BIOS when you power on?

If it is not in the Device Manager there is not much you can try from within XP as XP does not have any contact with the drive.

Is this laptop under warranty? If so I would consider sending it in.
