Need To Replace Graphics Card
Hi Im no computer wizz...but i think that my graphics card isnt working. Reason being, when i plug my monitors in it flashes from green to amber but the computer light is stayin on. When i plug the same monitors in to my other computer they work just fine. I removed the graphics card and there seems to be a part missing. If i am correct, i was wondering if u could put me in the right direction for a replacement. The old one costs roughly $65 aus dollars but could u reccommend any better for under $100? Thank you in advance and correct me if i am totally wrong.
here are photos of my graphics card and the slot thingy it goes into

That card is definitely missing a capacitor. Did it ever work? Any idea how it was damaged? Just curious.
Anyway replacements: here is a general Google for the type you need (AGP 8X):

If it was working with the card that way then perhaps this card was customized by the manufacturer. If it was never opened and there is no errant capacitor rolling about then perhaps it was customized as an OEM piece of equipment.
Anyway perhaps the problem is not the card. What happened when it first stopped working? Did it crash? Any power failure? Or was it just turned on one day and nothing happened?
As to that ATI RADEON 9550 it has a DVI interface. This means it will not take a standard VGA monitor plug but only DVI so you might want to verify your monitor plug. Most conventional monitors were standard VGA. Many higher end cards have both.

okay great. Thanks for that..No there was no crashing but originally it came with an LCD screen then something happened to the power plug. So for a while we were just using an older screen. Then one day it just stopped working. The computer lights go on and stay on but there is nothing on the screen which is why i thought it was the card. Because when i plug it in to my computer and it is off..I get the Colour menu and that kind of stuff. OK so VGA monitor im looking for. Great. Once again many thanks for the help

Just for a bit of extra info, the "VGA" connector that you need on the new graphics card is sometimes also referred to as "15-pin" or "D-Sub". They all mean the same thing.
The connector on the graphics card will be blue. If it's not, then it's 99% likely to be DVI, which is the one that you don't want

Thanks for that. And i think i just realised some have both? Is that correct i think im on the right part now. cheers

Some do have both. Many that have both are PCI_E rather than AGP.
Do you know what your graphics slot is? I was assuming AGP as that was the card that you posted.
Have you tried a different monitor on this card? Or this monitor on another computer just to verify that the monitor works?

yup i took a pic of it and posted it on an earlier comment..Its the brown one..Also i have connected the three different monitors to the broken computer and to my working computer..Soo it cant be the monitors also can you see this link and see if this would fit cheers.
