Wireless router. Says it's connected, but it ain't?

My Netgear DG834G v2 seems to be winding me up. its status page says "connected", but IE7 cannot fetch any page I ask for. When I connect my old Speedtouch USB modem all is well. This has happened a few times, and usually the router is OK again when I try it later. Is the router scrap?

It has been working satisfactorily alongside Zone Alarm for quite some time with no difficulties. I have made no changes either to my Zone Alarm settings or the Router settings.

    The Windows firewall is off.
I have no problems connecting, and staying connected, using my USB modem.

The fault is intermittent, I am currently using the router with no problems.

It certainly gets warm. It doesn't have an on/off switch so it's on all the time. I remember asking, (maybe in this forum) whether I should disconnect the power overnight, but I was advised that I should leave it on.

it's a ADSL modem/router you can power it down when not using it.

I turn my modem and router off when not in use.

what security are you using to stop others accessing your network?

I use WEP security as recommended in the router's manual.

I will disconnect it overnight in future, and see if that helps.....
I hope the socket is stronger than those on the old Spectrum 48k.
I can't remember where I left my soldering iron.
