    Cool New Build Issue

Greetings. I built a new system, but having an odd problem. I turn on the PS, the pc runs for about a minute, then automatically shuts off. There are no "warning beeps" from the mobo. The components are:

    Western Digital 160 Gig SATA2, WD1600YS (newegg.com)
Ultra X2 Connect Titanium 550w UV modular PS (buy.com)
    ATI X1300 Pro 256k PCI-E video card (fry's)
    Memory: 512k x 2, Corsair 240P VS1GBKIT533D2 (newegg.com)
    Intel Pentium D 805 Smithfield 2.66g, LGA 775 (newegg.com)
    Raidmax Smilodon case (newegg.com)
    Gigabyte 945GZ Motherboard (Intel 945GZ Express (newegg.com)
    Chipset)

Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is the processor very hot just after it shuts off? 'Very hot' would mean too hot to hold for long.

As stated it is a new build. It has never run long enough to get hot. Besides, I have a great CoolerMaster on the processor, the case has five fans, and the PS has two. I got an RMA from Newegg.com, and sent the mobo, processor, and memory back to them. I had set the CMOS, next boot it said it was set to the default settings (no more OC Failure, Enter Setup messages), I hit the delete key, and the computer shut off.

OK, I take your point but it's strange that it would run for a minute before shutting down. First thoughts for a problem like that would be overheating. Normally, if it's going to work, it'll stay on. Faulty components such as motherboard, processor and RAM could behave in all kinds of weird ways though!

Were you trying to overclock the PC as soon as you built it or was the message about "OC failure" referring to something else?
