SMART for my HD does not turn OFF! Neeed help.

My HD is SMART capable but my BIOS does not have any SMART options so I do not see a way to turn SMART off from BIOS. Hence, I tried smartmontools. I turned it off and after that smartmontools says it is disabled but when I reboot SMART is back ON.

When I run smartmontools it says "SMART support is:
Available - device has SMART capability.
Enabled status cached by OS, trying SMART RETURN STATUS cmd.

Does the last line explain why this happens and how to fix it? Is the ON status saved by the OS? Or could it still be in BIOS?

I saw that one solution could be to put a command to turn OFF SMART in a start-up script for the machine (i.e. rc.local or rc.sysinit, etc), but I assume that this will only work if the ON setting is saved by the OS. And I never done a script for Windows. Anybody here can help me with the script? Or have other solution to this problem?

This is a very old laptop that it was given to me after the Holidays. It shows a SMART warning during reboot and it asks to press F1 to go on. I want to get rid of this warning so that the machine can reboot alone. I know that the HD is old so I do not need this warning over and over again. The HD works just fine for now and I want to use it until it dies. Then I will replace it. At least for now I do not have the option of investing in a new hard drive. I have no valuable info on the HD so when it dies it dies.

I need to turn SMART off somehow or get rid of that warning message. The BIOS has no SMART option. That smartmontools utility can turn OFF the SMART feature but it does not stay ON. If I reboot, that warning message shows up again and SMART is back ON. So somehow the ON setting is saved and the the ON command is executed during the reboot process. Any ideas?
