    computer has died!

Hi,i had been working on the computer all day, several applications open,e-mail open, etc.I had to go and fax and when i came back....nothing,dead,zip.I tried to start as normal, but nothing. After about an hour the computer started. Now all it will do is check the drives and then nothing,no bios screen,no signal to monitor, caps lock etc won't light up.
From memory the system is xp,AMD 3600,1024 ram,ge-force graphics, just under 2 years old.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Graham

Does your computer get a good intake of air? Do you see dust around the fan vent? Maybe you burnt something out, just my two cents.

Give it a rest, try it again later.

Hmm,might be on to something.I have taken off the front cover and loads of dust and fluff, and smell of burning insulation.Could it be the graphic card?I suppose the only way to check would be to try another card in.The hard drive is spinning up as normal now, just no picture and i have not heard anything from the speakers....

Check all your hardware... blow or suck out that dust... I fried my motherboard/CPU b/c of dust. Try everything but the processor but by the sounds of it.. something needs replaced.

    Are you under warranty?

New graphics card installed, but made no difference.Any ideas???Are there any ways to check out the other components.I have noticed that there is an led display on the motherboard showing "4".I will go and have a look at the ABIT web page.

Hi,ABIT page lists the fault as

0.4. Detect memory-Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC-Auto-detection of L2 cache (socket 7 or below) Power on -> Stop at 0.4. Memory fail Replace memory

Stupid question, but are we talking ram memory?

    Any help much appreciated.
