    Unhappy Hard Drive Replacement

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP that I attempted to replace the hard drive on.

I was able to pull the old drive out, and install the new drive. When I booted the PC and entered Setup, it recognized the new drive. However, it will not boot to Windows. I've tried to boot to safe mode but no luck.

    Did I miss a step?

Also, the new hard drive is not a clean drive, it has data on it.

if you've not installed windows on the new drive it'll not boot into anything.

is the data on the drive from an old machine with XP on?

The replacement drive has Windows XP loaded on it.

Fixed...sort of. I was able to connect the replacement drive as a slave drive and obtain access to the data. Thanks for your help!
