Wow my disk drive is a piece of crap. It's always had problems, but now it won't work at all. Open the disk drive, I insert a CD (CD-ROMs and Music CDs) I close the disk drive, and an indicator light blinks to show it is TRYING to read the disk. Then the light goes out! What is going on!!! Do I need a new one, or is it fixable!?

If the drive is failing then it is not fixable. There is no economic repair that would be less than a new upgraded drive.

That being said you could try fixes on your own. One test is to insert a CD and then Close/Open/Close/Open/Close/Open etc. just to see if you can get the disk detected.

There could be a connection or cable problem.

You can also try to clean the lens although most manufacturer's would advise against it this is still a last ditch effort you could try.

After all that being said it might be time for a new DVD/CD RW drive for the future.

Well thanks for the info anyway, I've just been going crazy since I can't play The Sims 2! Ugh! I appreciate it though, I'll go take my tower up to Geek Squad and get it fixed. Sucks it decided to do this during the Christmas Season.

You could make sure the disks you insert are clean and also invest in a cleaning cd disk to clean the laser light inside that might help.
