    installer for image - webcam trouble

    Hi, i installed my labtec webcam software ages ago, and now when i plug in the webcam windows flashes up;
    "Could not load the installer for image", and can't install the webcam. I tried someone elses webcam, same model, it failed too. When i try to get windows to find a suitable driver, it can't. Any help would be appreciated.

    windows does not have a large database of drivers, what is the model # of your webcam?

    Labtec webcam pro.
    I have tried reinstalling the drivers, removing old ones first etc... same message comes up whenever it's plugged in.

    if you installed from a disk, try this, click download, when it is done, install it and re-start your computer

    Hope this helps

    Right, I (as thoroughly as i could) deleted the old labtec stuff, installed the one from the site you gave me. Almost the same happened, when I go into quickcapture, I am asked to plug in the webcam. I do so, same old message about not being able to load the installer for image. This time though, I am offered a troubleshooter, yipee. Or not, because the first thing it asks me to do is disconnect all usb devices including the camera to check for a conflict. So, with my newfound ps2 mouse + kb, i do so and try to click next, but the window (that is asking me) just sort of refreshes and does nothing.
    Meanwhile, in the background, and windows driver install dialog has come up, which can't find a driver automatically. If I tell it that i want to choose a driver to install myself, and click next, the same odd thing happens. The window just refreshes.

    i'm so confused...

    By the way, when I go into volume control, and I change the speaker volume, the internal PC speaker bleeps instead of the real ones. The sound still works fine, but the problems *may* be related.
