    need help with cpu buying

need a socket 775 pentium 4 530 or 540, retail would be my prefrence.....can not be a 531 or 541...must be 530 or 540...the difference is that the odd number series are em64t, and my mother board is this...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ubCategory=280

which i am confused i guess..does this motherboard acept only 32 bit cpu until you flash the bios to update the micro code?..if so then i need a 530 or 540...if not then great ill get a 541...any ideas or anything would be great in directing me in the right direction in getting what i need...thank you

    Hi Isaacual69,

The link that you gave to your motherboard specs doesn't work ("Page not found" on the NewEgg web site).

I would be very surprised if a BIOS update would allow a motherboard with 32-bit processor support to start seeing 64-bit processors. But, if you can tell us again what your motherboard is, perhaps we can find out a bit more.

Ah I see. Well, according to the MSI web site, this board does support 64-bit processors straight out of the box. Here's the full specs on the MSI site:

At first glance, that's a nice little board .... but have you noticed that there's no PCI-Express slots? That will hinder future upgrades.

yes i know that the board only had agp rather than pci e but i plan on building this computer and sellin it with onother one and taking the profits to build either a amd x2 systme or a core 2 systme...but it says ready right out the box huh?...i wonder why newegg had reviews saying that 64 bit was an issue till bios flash with a 32 bit cpu first any ideas or should i go ahead and buy a pentium 4 531 or 541 and hope it boots from it..thanks for the feed back...wait i read that if bios ver. is 1 then it wont work only ver. 7 will open up compatiblity for other cpu like the 64 bit

Here's a list of all downloads for that motherboard:

Notice how the latest BIOS revision is dated September 2005. It's unlikely that any new board that you bought would have been manufactured more than 15 months ago. On that basis, I would expect that you'd get the latest BIOS revision already included if you buy the board new. Even if you don't, you can download a BIOS update utility for that board that works through Windows by the looks of it. So it shouldn't be a big deal to flash it anyway. If it was me, I'd buy the 541 processor.

    Hope that helps
