Blank screen bootup, no mobo beeps, nothing.

    Hi,

i got a problem, i was just playing on my computer and all of a sudden the system froze on me. I had to restart my pc using the button on the case. Now i cannot boot up, there are no beep sounds, the BIOS screen doesn't show up, it just stays on a blank screen even tho the fans are working and the LED on the mobo is lit.

    Things i've tried..
1)i tried resetting the CMOS on the mobo... no luck
2)checked for loose connections... no luck
3)i thought it could be the graphics card, HD, PSU or memory, so i tried swapping them wth my brothers system, my components worked fine on his pc and his components still didn't solve the problem on my pc.

3)after doing those checks i'm guessing its either the mobo or CPU has buggered. which of these is most likely to screw up? is there anything else that could cause this problem?

    System specs
    CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4200+ socket 939
    MB: Asus A8N-E
    PSU: Hiper Type-R 480W
    RAM: 1GB Corsair (2 x 512)
    HD: Seagate 160GB Barracuda
    Graphics: ATI Radeon X800GTO

That's a tough call. It could be either. In my experience, apart from changing the processor to see if that fixes it (or trying the processor in a different PC), it's often hard to tell a faulty motherboard apart from a faulty processor.

You said that there were no beeps. Can we take that to mean that you KNOW that the system speaker was working before the problem started and that it would usually give a single 'success' beep after booting past the POST?

was there any power surges or anything? do you have a voltage regulator? you can get those screwdrivers that can detect power and check if your board is actually still working or not. no idea what those screwdrivers are called in English though.
