One of the things that I really like about Dells is that most of them have both a touchpad and a "nipple" mouse in the middle of the keyboard. It makes them very flexible to use when you find yourself out on the road without an external mouse. However, they can sometimes be problematic. From what you've said, I can't tell exactly when your problem occurs (if you've noticed any pattern at all). I know from experience, though, that some users have problems with the on-screen mouse pointer moving when they are typing. This is because, without realising, they are either brushing across the nipple mouse or the touchpad. This can be remedied by a setting on many Dells that allows you to disable the touchpad and nipple mouse when it detects that you are typing. This, therefore, stops the pointer moving all over the screen whilst you aren't trying to move it. I believe that this option is in Control Panel.

If, on the other hand, your problem is that you ARE trying to use the touchpad or nipple mouse but it is moving the pointer too quickly or too far on the screen (and sometimes making it disappear), then you probably just need to slow it down. This is also an option in Control Panel when you view the Mouse Properties control panel applet.

Let us know if that gives you the help that you need

Hi and thanks for the reply...

The problem with the mouse occurs even when I am not typing.
It seems to go haywire on its own,as if someone was remotely manipulating it.
The Tapping board does not even respond, as the mouse pointer keeps moving and disappearing on-screen

    Need further help and/or suggestions.

    Thanks much

Might be worth re-installing the Apoint (touchpad) driver. Do you have the blue Dell Resource CD that has the drivers for your laptop? If not, you should be able to get them from http://www.dell.com/support.
