hi i'm new here and i've been facing an unusual problem *to me anyways* for the past 2 months.
my computer would run like normal, smooth fast and all that. and it would just suddenly freeze. just... hangs there. no blue error screen or anything. just suddenly stops there. i've done quite a number of virus scans using TrendMicro Housecall, Norton ANtivirus, Kaspersky and even AVG. viruses came out 0. but problem persists. any suggestions?
i'm running on 2x256mb DDR 333 ram, windows XP service pack 2, 1x80GB ATA HDD, 1x200GB SATA HDD, and i've used about... 160GB altogether.
oh yeah running on a 7300GS as well.
it's been getting on my nerves lately as it might hang even when i'm not gaming but just surfing the net or something. just... freezes there.
there's no warning sign, no symptoms or anything. it won't start to lag beforehand or anything. which is the worst since i've lost numerous half finished documents cause of this.
i hope i've been specific enough. and thanks in advance![]()
Firstly, have you ran anti-spyware software?
i.e. Spybot S&D, AVG anti-spyware etc. If not do that first and they can be found in the sticky section here: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/forumdisplay.php?f=8
Get into Safe Mode and run them. When your computer boots, the first screen is the POST screen. Reaching after that tap repeatedly your F8 key or some computers use the Shift or Delete key until you get an option screen with Bootup options, i.e. Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Last Known Good Config etc. Choose SafeMode with networking or just safe Mode using your arrow keys and press enter.
Have you recently installed, uninstalled something, changed something on the PC since its been happening?
Do you have any errors or information from Event Viewer?
It can be found in the start menu Programs>Accessories>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer.
Check in the System, Applications and Anti-Virus titles there. If there is anything, right-click and choose properties. Then click thebutton you'll see in the new window, and it will copy all the info into your clipboard. Paste it into a text document (i.e. Notepad) and after you have them all, you can copy/paste them back here

i've checked Event Viewer, it doesnt show anything about the hang issues. no (x) or anything like that. i've done AVG, Ad-aware, and also Norton Scans. negative on the viruses.
i've had this problem before i reformat my com, after i reformat it lessened but these days slowly increases again.
so i'm wondering, could it be RAM issue?
Do you have Norton?
Well I wouldn't keep it for the life of me!!
Every expert will tell you to get rid of it as its the worst you can get and will in most cases totally destroy your system!
Run MemTest86 to check your RAM after burning it on CD as an ISO image or putting it on a floppy disk. You'll have to reboot and press F8 to be able to choose where to boot from. Choose the CD drive and themn wait for thetest (you'll have many on screen figures/labels). Look for Errors there and in which test you get them.i've had this problem before i reformat my com, after i reformat it lessened but these days slowly increases again.

Leave it to run for about 4 hours with a jug of coffee. Look in my sig for for where to download it and more info
Before this, try switching off Windows Updates from Control Panel and see if that helps. Then go to Ctrl+R type services.msc and right-click>stop the Automatic Updates service you'll find listed there towards the top.
Reboot and see if that changes anything.
Whats your CPU speed?![]()
3.00Ghz? 64bit single core processor i believe. Norton came with my Geforce 7300GS so i just used it.
and yeah i've closed windows update. i've even tried cleanbooting and changing my skins back to win98 style just to increase performance. no difference. would hang later.
oh yeah, when i said RAM issue, i was wondering cause i'm only running on a 256x2 DDR333 ram, and i'm using 280GB of Memory, as in HDD memory. now currently left about 120-140GB. could it be possible 512 can't handle processes running from both Hard Disks? my 80GB hard disk has about 27GB left. my 200GB SATA has 90+GB left.

I've just seen your screenshot in the other post and it seems yes, you're using too much RAM (504) while you only have 512MB installed. That is the reason why.
You'll need to increase that. The system I gave you a screenshot of has 1280MB installed.
my main computer is also freezing.started not long after put in wireless broadband.
hmm... more details maybe? or follow the instructions as Kazna said and post what you find out. in a new thread preferably
