I don't know if it has to deal with the sudden random restarts it's been doing, but if I had to take a wild guess, this damaged the PCI Device and is rendering its build undetectable by the Hardware Manager?

    2. Yes, and upon detection, it's automatically installed.
Again my apologies for my confusion.

If we totally forget about this PCI Device (for the moment) the Ethernet card is detected and installed but still throws an error message that it cannot start?

If so are you sure that the Ethernet card has the drivers it needs?

I am pretty sure that the system installs the correct drivers, because when I reformatted the system last year, I didn't have a problem with getting the internet up.

It wasn't until about a month ago that this computer started having major problems. After being on for awhile, the system would start to slow down and lag, giving periodic activity lapses before resuming where it was, each lapse becoming a bit longer than the last, until the system would completely lock up and automatically reset itself.

About 2 weeks ago, I had one day where the network stopped registering, but doing a System Restore fixed it. When this problem arose, I also tried System Restore, but it wouldn't fix.

Still having detection/installation problems with the cards.

    Well, here's an update now...

I managed to get the drivers online and transfer them to the other computer, and now both cards are installed.

The problem now: It still won't register the internet properly. It'll either say the network connection is established and the internet isn't working, or the internet is connected and the network connection isn't working.

On both sides, it still won't connect to a webpage, even after running network setup and switching cables around.

Well, after a few more cable switches, another network configuration, and a system restore, everything's working again...

It was probably the constant random restarts that somewhat damaged the card, leaving the standard drivers installing system to not fully recognize the PCI Device.
