Re-booting

Re-booting
I installed a new video care (GF FX5200 256 MB DDR TV DVI). When I tried to shut my computer down as normal it would get as far as a blank screen then re-boot. The only way to shut it down was disconnect the power. I re-installed my old card and now still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

Is this XP? If so are you sure that the Shut down menu reads Shut down rather than Restart?
If so check all your BIOS Settings for any Wake On settings and or Power On after power failure etc.
Also: any switches on the motherboard that perhaps you changed inadvertently?

You might also try a System Restore to a point when things worked OK:
start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Thanks for the reply. In my excitement with a new video card I just assumed that was the cause. After reading the material you sent I remembered I also up graded the USB to a higher speed unit. Now, I can't wait for the Thanksgiving day company to leave so I can go back to work on this thing.

I put the new video card back in and took out the new USB I had installed at the same time and guess what, it works great now. Thanks again for the information.
Two more questions.
-I have three memory slots. One with 256mb the other with 512mb. I installed another 512. It was the same brand and type as the other, but the computer couldn't find it. I pull all the memory out and tried them each one at a time and in each slot. The two old ones worked, but the new one would not. I sent the new one back and got a replacement and the same thing happend. Should I try another brand or is their something I'm missing?
-I tried several times to scan my system from this site, but all I get is something that says it is scanning. What am I doing wrong?

Here is a great tool for hardware specs: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
The scan on this site is temporarily Out of Order.
What is the make and model of the motherboard?
Are you sure they are exactly the same? On the surface it would appear that the new RAM is incompatible with the motherboard.
