how do i know whether i can add more memory?
hi guy's. i'd like to know a few things about my computer really. how do i find out whether my pc could handle a 1gb memory stick being put into it without causing any damage. i currently have two 512mb ddr-sdram sticks side by side and had the opportunity of purchasing a 1gb stick reasonably cheaply but was a bit unsure. i have pc wizard which tells me that the memory is something like pc2100 133mhz 166mhz (forgive me if that's not exaclty right), mainboard ms-6382, chipset via kt/266/333, amd athlon 1665mhz. but even though i have this info i'm not sure my pc could handle it, any help would be much appreciated.
another problem is my old ati radeon 9220 video card. i'm finding more and more games won't run on it so was looking at an ati 1600 pro (money is an option here guys so please don't go any higher than the ton mark) but it's all this agp or pci stuff i'm unsure of. plus somebody told me i'd need a new mother board because of the speed on this one. something like if it was x8 and your board was only x2 it would only come back down to the x2 speed any way. then there's all the hastle of a possible new motherboard (i'm on incap i'll have you know. lol) wher will it end. in maplin i've seen a motherboard with a new processor already attached, they look alright but is a single faster processor better than these new dual core things? it's so darn complicated. i was wondering wheter there was a tool where by i can upload my system info to some site that could tell me what i would need to keep my pc up to date. again any help etc etc.
last request. i bought a new lcd monitor recently and it would occasionally just go off even though we set the pc never to switch off or hibernate or sleep or anything. the green power light would flicker and you sometimes could hear the faintest pop pop pop (very quick very quiet but i heard it once and my missus heard it another time) we have sent it back but you don't think it was something i hadn't set right do you. we set it to the optimal screen res as requested but there's nothing i shoud have done in some hidden settings somewhere for people changing over to an lcd type monitor is there? anyway it's back with them and they're investigating i just thought i'd ask.
so if there's any help out there please post here so i can get myself clued up a bit more.
thanks for your time people
regards
