    Need some advice fellas..please thanks

Neal, has been helping with my "blue screen of death" message. Sometimes when I am on MSN Browser or running a anti-spyware or what not my computer give me a blue screen and restarts. Upon restarting, my computer tells me you have just recovered from a serious error. Here is an example of a message I will get:

    "Error Signature
    BCCode: 4e BCP1 : 0000008f BCP2 : 00036BAF BCP3 : 00006BAF
    BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product: 768_1"

I called Best Buy "geek squad" and Josh the tech told me that when you get the blue screen it is associated with a bad HD. Is that true?

BTW, Neal didn't find any spyware/viruses he suggested I probably have bad Ram or MB.

To associate Blue Screens with bad hard drives is ridiculous.

    0x0000004E: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

This indicates that the memory management Page File Number list is corrupted. Can be caused by corrupt physical RAM, or by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists.
    You could try MemTest: http://www.memtest86.com/

    Also:

In order to get more details please do the following:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.
If there are no .dmp files then Search for: minidump
Remember this location and the path that leads to it.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft

All you need do is download and install this. Make no attempt to start or run it.

    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz

This is a DOS based batch file that will command the above Microsoft Tools.

    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.

    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

If you are looking for links on how to interpret this data for yourself try here first:

Do you have any .dmp files?

    If not then: minidump?

In Search set More Advanced Options to Show Hidden as well as System files.

There is only four files and all say:

SymWSC is a file belonging to Symantec Security Center.

I am a bit confused about what you are looking for.

Everytime you see a Blue Screen a .dmp or Dump file should be created by Windows. In order to view it you must follow the steps in my post #3.

If you have symwsc.dmp files this is probably an aspect of Symantec's.

If your computer has not been creating dump files then I would suggest running the MemTest for starters. The dump logs would just have given a lot more details on why the system crashed. But your BCCode: 4e indicates a memory issue as seen above.

You might want to turn off Symantec's Security Center just to eliminate that as a culprit.

Most of the details are described on the site: http://www.memtest86.com/

Basically you download and create a boot floppy assuming that you have a floppy drive of course.

Otherwise you can create a bootable CD by downloading the ISO and creating a disk image from it.

Let us know if you need mo0re specifics on either approach.
