    Athlon Performance Vs Pentium IV

I'm running an overclocked AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU, its Speed is roughly 2.01Ghz. Thats apparently rated at the same level as a P4 3.2Ghz CPU, I was just wondering how that is worked out. I want to get a New CPU but am unsure as to what power rating AMD have in Comparison to Intel. Any help would be great. Thanks.

if your debating between the 2 types then i would say athlon64...they rate the speed cause the athlon64 has shorter pipelines for the info to travel than what the pentium 4 does so the amd will run 2GHz but is comparible to a p4 3.2GHz..also the seres number like 3200 or 3500 for amd is based in a amd 1GHz cpu..the 3200 means that it will run 3.2 times faster than the 1GHz cpu, and lastly amd will also run cooler than a pentium 4 and use less power...the core 2 duo is a great cpu if your motherboard will support it cause the have now shrtened thier pipelines like amd and is now currently faster than any other cpu (in general) on the market...for about 200 bucks you can get one pluse mind you that its duel core which you can never go wrong with

Greetings Isaac, I was definatly going with an AMD CPU as my MOBO wont support an Intel one, I was just a little confused as to the jargon AMD use as I was untill recently an Intel man. The new CPU I want to get will definatly be a Dual Core CPU. Any recomendations? Thanks.
