printer probelm
Have an HP printer Deskjet 520 which has been very reliable but is suddenly refusing to print. On self-test it prints OK - have never had this happen before and am not quite sure how to tackle probel. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is the self-test initiated by pressing a button on the printer? Or are you going into the printer's Properties screen in Windows and pressing the Print Test Page button?
If you haven't yet tried the test page from Windows, give it a go and, if that doesn't work, then it'll most probably be a driver problem, which could be resolved by re-installing from the installation CD that came with the printer. You can bring up the printer's Properties screen by going into Control Panel, selecting the Printers (and faxes) option, right-clicking the icon for the Deskjet 520 and then selecting Properties from the menu.

Thanks for reply but I've tried all the things you suggested - and installed driver from Windows. As it's an old printer I haven't got disks. The printer initializes OK and have used 2 different cables. As the printer was working up till a short time ago I am puzzled. It's not my main printer - have an HP connected to USB. Have never had any conflicts before.

Are you running Windows XP or an older version of Windows?
