everything was preinstalled when i first bought it. the disc they gave me was just a system bootup disk. Any suggestions on what to do?

So you installed XP off of a Microsoft CD?
The EMachine model is here:
http://www.emachines.com/support/pro...es&model=T3306
The only driver is the chipset. Might help.
Here is the motherboard:

I cannot currently get the download driver page:
http://www.fic.com.tw/support/mother...x?model_id=152
My guess is that you need to reload all drivers for that motherboard.
And then also your Graphics Card drivers etc.

sorry, and i should probably add im computer illiterate.

No problem.
What disk did you use to reinstall XP? An eMachine disk or Microsoft disk?
I assume that you can start XP now?
You just have no sound? Any other problems outside of that blank scan?
What do you see when you right click start > My Computer then click Properties?
-
i used a microsoft disk.
yes, xp loads fine.
as of now its just the sound thing that i noticed.
properties? do you mean system? and i hear beeping from my cpu, just not my speakers. it looks like everything that was built in wasnt installed or something.

In researching I find that eMachine only sells its' drivers which is just another reason to never use eMachine.
That being said we might be able to get compatible motherboard drivers.
Try this first:
