    Cannot connect my DVD Writer to my computer

    Hi, i just bought a Dell Computer and it didnt have a Dvd writer. Soo i bought a ASUS DRW-1608P3S and the back connections arent the same??? Have i stuffed up or are there some kind of connections i can buy for this problem..??? Please Help

    What is the model of Dell? e.g. Dimension 4200 etc.

    Yeah that is the drive... and my Dell is a Dimension C521

    Your DVD is a standard IDE but your motherboard only has SATA slots.

    Therefore what you need is a SATA DVD drive or an IDE > SATA adapter for the IDE DVD drive.

    Just note that you need a IDE > SATA adapter and not a SATA > IDE adapter.

    Point being there is no room on the motherboard for an adapter on the motherboard SATA slot.

    The adapter you need must be on the IDE DVD drive which will then take a SATA line from the motherboard.

    No. That is a power line adapter if you had a SATA drive in an IDE case you would need to adapt the power as well as the data cables.

    Your power plugs in the Dell should be fine for the power supply.

    What you need is an adapter for the data line. You will have a SATA cable from the motherboard needing to go into an IDE slot (DVD drive). So on the back of your DVD drive you will need an adapter such as this:
