Motherboard Blues

Re: Motherboard Blues
Most of the bits I've ordered for the 3 PC's I've built so far come from here
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home/
but I've found a local PC shop close to home http://www.dawcomputers.co.uk/
very helpful and on the doorstep.
have a look at independent local PC shops they usually will help you out and most aren't to badly priced (plus run by someone who knows a hard drive from a floppy unlike some PC superstores)

Motherboard
CPU
These are what I briefly looked at but they are kind of what I am looking for, but very pricey
. I just can't find whether or not that motherboard support AGP graphics cards as I do not wish to purchase a new one just yet... by the looks of things it does not buuut I'll splash out if I must.
OR would you suggest actually investing in a cheapo socket A motherboard and have that for a year or so more, because 2.2ghz is not bad at all for CPU's even today and I'm planning on finding out if my CPU works or not by placing it in a spare computer - if it does I might just do this.

Right! An update - situation change. I'm quite excited now, but don't know what sort of response to expect from you guys. I have beeps!! I accidentally left my graphics card out of it's slot as it was not screwed in and came out a bit when the PC stood upright due to the weight of the new cooler. Anyway! There was one long beep and eight short ones - I looked up this beep code and sure enough it was a display/retrace error or something of the sort. Does this mean my motherboard is fine?? Or not necessarily. One thing I will try, probably tomorrow, is reapplying the 'goop' that goes between the CPU and it's cooler as this MAY be causing the problem (going back to my first post where I mentioned how the computer only runs for one second then dies leaving only the power LED on if it is stood upright ie. weighty CPU cooler having an influence on the processor). Thanks to B_D's link to building my own computer, I found out that this thermal 'stuff' can be the cause of such problems. I will report back when I do. Hopefully this means less decision-making (in buying new parts)

Yeah anyway, so no luck with trying to re-apply the thermal paste, I tried a few times and even put the old heatsink back with no luck as I say. Guess the processor is dead?

Before you spend more money, try the steps outlined here to troubleshoot your POST problems.
Post back with your results.

Just to let you all know none of this worked. I finally burnt my motherboard trying out different stuff. So now I'll be buying new parts.
