My laptop also has a problem with that. Its a Sony laptop. I press the power button and nothing happens , so i take out the stick of RAM and ten put it back in again and it boots fine !

Also whenever i resart the computer in windows it simply shuts down and then doesnt do anything ( doesnt start up again)

Whever i press the power button i can hear the hard drive spin and then CD drive spin etc.... BUT BLANK SCREEN !

Any ideas ?

Is this on battery or AC adapter?

If both I would remove the battery and see if it works on the adapter alone.

Is it correct to say that if you remove and replace the RAM between boots the computer will boot?

Only not into Windows? Is that correct?

What is the exact Sony model and number?

Ok i could try that but im pretty sure i have already tried that . Yes it is correct if i replace the ram the computer will boot up. And yes it does boot into windows after that !

Do you have 2 RAM slots? If so, does it resolve the problem if you place the RAM in the other RAM slot? Sounds to me like it could be faulty RAM or faulty slots on the motherboard.

You might also want to try testing reboots whilst it is plugged into an external monitor. It might actually be that it is booting correctly every time but sometimes the display is being diverted to the monitor output port instead of to the laptop's own display panel.

well the problem now i got the new RAM is that it doesnt always restart. When i go to restart it sometimes it will restart and then boot ok but then when i try to do it again it will not work ? Once again it spins up but then jus goes quiete and the screen is black ?

I have tried pressing function then the f5 keys etc.. that doesnt seem to be the problem

the laptop seems to shut down and then startup fine , but it just will not restart. When i press the restart button it shuts down then trys to boot up again but it just makes a sound and there is no display. So i hold in the power button to turn it of and then presss it again and it works. Also when i take the RAM out and put it back in again it wll restart. but it will only restart once then it wont restart again ?

does anyone have any idea lol ! im stumped by it !
