CD RW / DVD RW Drive not working properly

i have a sony DVD rw DW q58a slimline drive installed on my laptop, it will read and write DVD's but will not even recognise a CD.

ive tried reinstalling the firmware, but no joy.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance
