im not sure if im typing in the right section or not. but i need help and i need it quick. i can't turn on my computer it keeps loading at tha xp screen. (when the bar just keeps going from left to right) and it wont stop. it wont load and start and im on safe mode. i keep having to hold onto my comp's power botton and wait till it turns off and then turn it on and press safe mode. HELP HELP HELP!

Can you get the Safe Mode option screen?

Try booting into Safe Mode options:

After the power-on and BIOS POST or your Logo screen repeatedly tap the F8 key or hold the Ctrl key before Windows starts.

If so try Last known good configuration.

You should not see that XP startup screen if you are going into Safe Mode.

The next question would be what type of XP CD do you have? What is the make and model of the computer?

i tried last good configuration i think and it doesnt work it goes to xp screen. yeah i can get into safe mode and safe mode screen i dont need to press f8 though cus it just normally does that it says like, ooh blah blah blah sorry for this but there was a power failure or a press of power / restart button then all these crap. safe mode stinks. uh ierno. all i know is i have a DELL.

You can try to run thru some tests and repairs using Safe Mode which is why there is a Safe Mode or you can just begin a repair process via Dell instructions.

Try running Check Disk:

start Run... cmd

Type:

chkdsk /f

When asked if you want to run on next boot? Y or N?

Type: Y

And reboot,

This will check for and fix any hard disk errors.

aw dude it doesnt work. i noticed that when my xp screen was loading my num lock + cap lock + scroll lock blinked once then it went off and it kept loading. ahh seriously help im so tired of being in safe mode

What didn't work? Did Check Disk run? What exactly happened?

Also what Dell CD's do you have and what is the exact model e.g. Dimension 2400 etc?

Did you run thru that Dell troubleshooter?

Did you try any System Restore points?

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

i tried system restore doesnt work. i have dimension 4700. things were okay like today. but i was like hm my comps getting slow i think ima try restarting it. so i did then it wont work now. i checked disk but i dont think anything happened.
