Can anyone help, please. My computer won't turn on. Nothing happens, no fans running, nothing. The standby light is on, on the mobo, that's all. I've checked the PSU is giving the correct voltages when not connected to the mobo, and I've also changed the power supply, and that didn't work. I've disconnected all the drives from the mobo, and that didn't work. I reset the bios and that didn't work. I even checked the on-off switch, and that DID work, so now I'm at a complete loss as to what to do. Some volts are getting to the mobo, as the standby light is on, and the CPU fan moves momentarily when the PSU is switched off using it's rear panel switch. But other than that, everything seems dead.
Can anyone suggest any ideas, or is my mobo well and truly dead? Thanks for any help.
Hi, welcome to DAL
it could be your processor
what is the make and model of your motherboard?
Hi, thanks for the welcome.Originally Posted by madmikejt12

do you get any beeps when you try to start?
No, nothing. It's completely dead. No fans, nothing at all happens. The only thing I get is the standby light on the mobo.Originally Posted by brain_damage
do the CD drives spin, it may be a PSU problem
Nothing spins, no fans, no drives. The PSU is okay, I've checked it by taking it out and grounding the green wire on the mobo connector and all voltages are present and correct. I've also put in another PSU and that doesn't help. I've disconnected all drives and taken out all cards, one by one, until I'm left with only the mobo and CPU and fans, and still nothing happens when I press the on switch. I checked that, too, and it works okay. The standby light on the mobo comes on, and that's the only thing that happens! No beeps, nothing. Either the mobo is fried, or the cpu, or both, as far as I can tell. I'm beginning to think I need to replace them. Pity is, they're 1 year and 1 week old, so they're out of warranty! I checked with the company I bought them from, and they won't do anything to help.Originally Posted by brain_damage

have you got the manual and motherboard disc?
what was the machine doing just before it decided to not boot?
Yes, I have the manual and mobo disk, but they don't really help. There are no beeps from the POST, so I'm coming to think that the mobo is defunct. I don't know what the machine was doing before it went awry - I wasn't with it at the time. It was working okay, I went out of the room, and when I returned a couple of hours later, the monitors (I've got two) were blank, the harddisk light on the front panel was permanently lit, with no sounds of hdd activity. I switched off at the mains, then switched it all on again, to be met with silence! No lights, so beeps, no fans, no hdd activity, nothing. On opening the case, the standby light on the mobo was on, and that's all. I've stripped everything down to the bare mobo+cpu+cpu fan+psu+ front panel switch and speaker, and still there's not a peep from it. I tried another psu and that didn't do anything either. So I guess it's a new mobo, at least! Can't tell if the cpu has died as well, as there are no POST beeps to tell me anything.Originally Posted by brain_damage
I've now ordered a new mobo and will try that when it arrives.
computers who'd have one...they're more trouble than they're worth sometimes
