Mainboard may be fried???
I recently received a computer from work that is around a year old and when I got it home I attempted to boot it up but nothing.. no beeps or lights but the power supply was running.. so I tried many a thing reseated the RAM... reseated EVERYTHING... video card is on-board the only way I could get the hdd and cd-ROM to spin up was to pull the IDE cable
thanks for the help in advance

Do you know if it was working previously?
If pulling on cables alters behavior there must be cable or connection problems.
I would remove everything but the CPU and try to boot (no RAM). Assuming that the on-board or case speaker works you should get Beeps.
If so reseat a single stick of RAM. You may need to try different slots as well.

yes, it did work previously I actually found out last night that it was only 6 months old
the cpu holder thingy is broken but I was told that it would have to bearing on this problem.. maybe they were wrong?

Can you elaborate on the "CPU holder thingy?" If the CPU isnt seated properly that could VERY well be your problem.
jephree - i think he means he unplugged the IDE cables and the HD / DVD spun up when they got JUST power...

yeah thats what I mean..
is there anyway I can get a new cpu holder thingy??
I'm going to try and see if I can get it seated better
