Is it a new device? Did it ever work?

Is it detected under My Computer?

If so right clicking brings up Properties. Does Properties show any data on the drive?

Does it show a file system?

Also if you right click it do you get the option to Format?

thank u for your attention,, :-)
no, it is not a new device, before this problem, my flash is ok, i get it approx 6 month ago.
my flash is detected under my computer, but it named "removable disk" not it's name (windows XP os).
properties is showed but it's long time to displayed.
if i click at right click and click format, the computer is not response for this click / computer no action... but the computer is ok (not "not responding")
    please... hlp me.....
    thanks

Hey i'm new here also, and i'm having the exact same problem with my MP3 player, i'm running Windows Xp pro with sp2. The problem is: I connect my mp3 player into the USB slot and it is being detected, it appears in the system tray, and is veiwable in my computer. But I cannot access the device, right clicking to see available options takes ages to show, and I am not able to format the device as this causes a temporary lockup. The error message I recieve is as follows, and appears when I double click to access the device: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. The device was working perfectly until now, go figure. Thanks in advance.
