Exclamation HELPPPP My CD-RW drive SUCKS- DVD drive in it's place??? MADNESS

    Alright here's the deal-

While my CD-RW drive was ejected I sort of (and by sort of I mean did) walked into it and knocked it off the track (I know this because it was all crooked and crap and wouldn't move). It wouldn't go back in so I, like the impatient person I am, forced it back in. I took apart everything trying to fix it and now it works but a few pieces basically fell out (one ring-like piece and a white plastic circular piece). It doesn't completely work though. The tray won't stay shut and keeps opening and closing like 3 times before it stops and stays closed. It won't read any cd so it's pretty much useless.

My DVD drive, on the other hand, works beautifully. But I don't use it at all. The F: drive does everything the E: drive can do so is there any way I can switch settings or unplug and replug things inside (easily..or not) so that my F: drive will be recognized as my E: drive, work and perform the same actions as the CD-RW drive and just completely illiminate the F: drive altogether since it's useless to me anyway (and then would be working as the E: drive)?

I don't even know if it's possible but it makes enough sense to me.

PLEASE iif anyone knows if/how I can do this it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thaaaaanks.

It is very easy to disconnect the drives inside. Just two cables: power and IDE. Unplug it and it's gone.

To remove it physically there are probably 4 screws and you might need to pop off the front case bezel to remove the whole drive.

Thru Windows you can disable the bad drive without going inside. Go to the Device Manager and right click the drive and Disable.

go to the Device Manager start Run... devmgmt.msc

Drive letters, other than A: and C: are arbitrarily set by Windows. Being F: or E: doesn't matter.

Thanks a lot for your help.
So basically I don't need to go into my computer.
I use my E Drive to burn CDs. I want to make it so my DVD drive can be where I burn cds instead.
I'm still lost as to how that's going to happen.

You choose where to burn your data. Just choose the drive you want to burn to while setting up the burn.

Assuming by DVD you mean DVD/CD drive.
