I was playing a game when suddenly my screen just seemed to illuminate and everything got way brighter, i tried working out brightness/contrast/gamma and nothing worked, i figured it might be my resolution but after changing it around everything still is way too bright. Is this something that is easily fixed or is my monitor just giving out?

Linux can, or could blow a monitor. The type of monitor may affect the brightness, but not that much I would think, anyhow best give as much info as possible. The game may be flawed and there may be a patch for it, but without knowing what it is we... or at least I, cannot help just now, apologies.

Hi thanks for the help. The game is World of Warcraft, that was the first time it happened however it seemed to go away but its been happening again when the game isnt on. The screen flickers a little sometimes when i type and the brightness comes and goes. Im running it on Windows XP and its an LCD monitor. Any advice would be great.

Sounds like a monitor problem. How old is it? Most LCD's carry a 3 year warranty.

Also you could try to reload your graphics drivers. The manufacturer's web site will have drivers and instructions to uninstall/reinstall.
