Hello there. New user to this forum.

I just had a bit of a panic attack.
To start, I use windows XP. Optical mouse and a USB keyboard with regular port adaptor.

I haven't downloaded any programs lately, I mean I can't remeber the last one I did DL. And I've been doing nothing out of the ordinary tonight.

Now to my problem.

I pulled my speaker plug out of my comp, and plugged in my headphones. When I did .. instead of music I got a high pitched whining sound. It hurt my ears. So I messed around a little, and it wasn't the program or anything (I was using Winamp). So I restarted my comp. When I did, on one of the first screens that comes on (Just after the windows logo i think), it said Keyboard Error. No notes or anything about it, that's it. uh oh. And then my comp beeped a few times, you know how it does when your typing something it doesn't like or something. SO anyways, I get to my desktop, and my keyboard suddenly won't work. It's plugged in fine in the right port .. even when I press the NumLock key, the lil light indicator on the keyboard won't change. And then I tried to use my mouse, and it wans't responding either. But the mouse was lit up, as it always is.
So I restart again .. and my mouse works at first, and then stops working. Restart a couple more times .. mess with what settings I could (the keyboard did work in the system configuration, you now when you press F2 when you turn on your comp), but then when I booted up, they both stopped working.
So i restarted a couple more times .. and after the 5th time, it's all working again. No problems. For now.
Now my virus scan isn't exactly up to date .. and that's my first thought.

So what do you guys think? Ever heard of anything like this?

Thank you in advance ofr whatever assistance you can provide.
