xp wont boot after sp2 install

hi. i reinstalled xp but with a cd from my other computer as this was newer.
all wroked great untill i came to reboot. now all i get is the blue hp screen and then the screen goes blank.

i have tried to boot from cd (originalsp1 and sp2) but all it does is say check hardware config and then screen goes blank again. nothing else happens.

i have remove cmos battery for 2 mins and then replaced and still the same.

i carnt boot from fdisk. it just says replace disk and try again.

can anyone please help. i need my computer for work.

is the machine the same model as the disc is for?

did the machine originally have a restore disc, was the back up on a partition on the hard drive?

can you get in to the BIOS to alter the boot order?

backup was originally on hard disk but has been cleared now. now use a disk.
i can get into the bios but even when it starts to boot from cd it will not continue.

i have reset this machine with a disk 100 times. troulble is this time i used the disk from my other computer instead of the normal one. this one is sp2 where the normal disk is sp1. will this make a diffrence.????

try the original disc that may have all the drivers for the motherboard on it.

    the original disc is bootable

why did you have to reinstall XP in the first place, was the PC working fine until then?

have you altered any hardware since last time it was installed?

the laptop configuration will be different to the PC that could be where you're having the problems.
