Screen freezes after few hours game play.
My computer has allways had little quarks, for the most part ive delt with them. my ram wasnt suported by the motherboard to run at 400mhz so i had to underclock it, and later i installed a hacked motherboard bios that solved this problem. computer is super stable for the most part this is is stable unless i play games.
This problem is almost not a big deal at all because it only happens when i play games for extended periods of time and doesnt allways happen. But has re accured enough that ide like to get it fixed if at all posible.. Note that this has been happening sence befor i installed the hacked bios (witch to me seems to have done nothing but good).
So my computer doesnt crash wont restart on its own or shutdown.. But the screen freezes. i can still hear the sound and whats going on around me.. and if i mess with some key combo's ctrl+alt+delete ctrl+alt+esc heck i just throw ctrl+alt infront of just about anything, but if i do this i can usualy manage to get the mouse pointer to work again but the screen is still frozen for the most part...
This would seem to be one of 2 things.. video card or powersupply, replaced the video card problem continues, Replaced the powersupply with a thermal take tr2-500 Watt powersupply. problem continues. I even replaced the hard drive because it could put off such a result, but once again no change.
So are we talking heat.. Well maby but i doubt it.. While my temperatures arent great due to an akward athlon xp 3200+ cpu that has ran hot sence the day i got it... Ive replaced the hs&f with a thermaltake silent boost to get the temperatures at idle to 52c and at full load to 62c , while this isnt great because its been sugested that over 55c will shorten ur cpu's life span, it doesnt seem to be the cause of my immediate problem.
So video card overheating should be the next thing i think off or the first thing but i lost count.. Well it runs idle at about 43c and max load at about 55c and i cant realy argue with that.. I have it set to alarm me if it reaches threshold and it has never made a peep.
So in an attempt to not spend anymore money when im planing on building a new computer within the next year ive ran out of ideas and ran out of things i can upgrade now and still use in my next build EG power supply.. if i upgraded the ram would be useless to me very soon.
While it would seem posible to be a ram problem tho not likely because that would cause reboots ETC, I have ran memtest with flawless results for over a day, and my computer stays stable under prime95 for as long as i can throw it at it.. after all this system is running at stock speeds.
So now that u understand my problem and things that ive done here are my specs..
