Sound Card not recognised
I have had to reformat my hard drive and reload all my software including Windows XP. All is well except that the machine does not appear to detect the sound card. The card is an old Soundblaster 16 which is good enough for my purposes. The card worked fine before the reload but XP had previously been installed over Win 98. A previous attemp to reload with win 98 did detect the card.
If anyone card help I would be most grateful.
regards
Andy

is the version of XP an upgrade?
have you loaded windows 98 first?
what does the device manager say about the card?
-
Hi Jeff,
This is a full version of XP. Have not loaded 98 first although that was the sequence last time. Device Manager under Volume says 'No Audio Device' and under Audio says under playback default device 'Modem #0 line playback' which I assume is a default response. The only other option under this is 'Modem #0 Handset playback' (No sign of the sound card)!
Hope this helps

the card is old and may not be supported by XP so you may need to get another soundcard

^^ I second this...
I just had a sound card on my daughters dell that worked under 98 but didnt even show up under XP. Good thing is that I found a cheap SoundBlaster for 25 bucks at teh egg!

Sounds like this may be right since it works OK on 98.
Many thanks for your help anyway.
