Hey i got a problem, the other day before I was getting ready to go to bed before I ran windows auto update got the new patches and turned off the computer and then replaced my ram that was in my computer because i just bought some new ram. After i placed the ram in i booted up and now my monitor doesnt even reconize that its plugged into my computer it just stays in safe mode and acts like nothing is connected to it even through it is. So I took the new ram out and put in the old ram..same problem, so then i disconnected the video card hard drive cables and made sure they were on correctely and everything was fine. They were and i still get the blank screen and start up like my monitor isnt connected to my computer which it is. Help me out!!![]()
Remove all the RAM and reboot? Do you hear BEEPS?
If so then replace one stick of old RAM and boot.
If nothing happens try a different slot.
Make sure that the RAM is seated properly. Press down evenly until the clips lock themselves.
If still no go try clearing your CMOS. If you need help with that just ask.
Yeah, tried all that differnet slot and one ram deal. How do you clear the CMOS?Originally Posted by jephree
Basically unplug the computer > Remove the motherboard battery > Short the CMOS jumper

Not all boards have CMOS jumpers but most do. It is a 3 pin jumper near the battery. Usually labeled: CCMOS or JBAT or (depends on the motherboard).
What you do to clear this is move the jumper (plastic sleeve) from pins 1&2 and place over 2&3.
After a few minutes return to 1&2 and replace battery etc.
Your computer and or motherboard manual should have precise instructions. If you need help searching this: what is the make and model of the computer and or motherboard?
I put the jumper on 2and3 and when i did that the computer wouldnt even start, so i put the jumper back on 1and2 it started still no screen, then i removed the battery started it still blank screen. Then i put battery back in same story. My motherboard is ASUS K8VSE. I also tried an old video card to see if that might work, but it didnt.Originally Posted by jephree
The CMOS process is as follows:
1. Unplug computer
2. Remove battery
3. Change CMOS jumper from 1/2 to 2/3
4. Take a walk
5. Put jumper back to 1/2
6. Replace battery
7. Plug in
8. Try to start
If after this it does not start:
1. Do you get any LED's on the case or on the board?
2. Do the fans run?
3. Does the monitor LED go briefly green?
4. Does the monitor inducate: No Signal?
5. If you boot with no RAM do you get BEEPS?
1. Their is one green light, its always on.Originally Posted by jephree
2. yes all fans run
3.no stays orange, i even tried plugging another monitor no go
4.yes
5. with all the ram removed i get no beeps.
The computer boots up normal and sounds fine but no signal, i thinking maybe it the hard drive?
Did you follow the Clear CMOS steps?
The BIOS loads before the hard drive takes any action and or is detected.
If you are not getting a BIOS then there is some main hardware issue e.g. RAM or CPU or Motherboard.
If your onboard or case speaker is working and booting with no RAM gives no BEEPS than a CPU or motherboard failure is indicated.
Hmmm since the board doesnt make any sounds when their is no ram it must be the board.. I'll replace the cpu and motherboard and see what happens. Thanks for your help.![]()
Assuming that either the board has an on-board speaker or else a speaker slot for a case speaker and the absence of RAM does not BEEP then there is a board or CPU issue.
Do you remember when things were working OK: usually you would get One BEEP between the BIOS POST and Windows (hard drive) booting?
