    CD BURNER : please help

I had a cd burner installed onto my computer it didn need any programs or that it just work straight away but recently it disappeared. when i go to "My Computer" I can't see the drive any more. the burner worked for months without any problem but it won't read cd's or anything it still spins them and then and doesn't sound faulty is there any way it can't get the computer to find it again.

There is no label on the burner it just says compact disc recordable rewritable.

    Please help

Try going to the Device manager

    start Run... devmgmt.msc

click the + next to DVD/CD drives

Right click on the drive in question and then click Uninstall

    Then reboot the computer.

XP should redetect the drive and reload the drivers.

If you are comfortable opening the computer I would suggest removing the IDE (ribbon) cable from the back of the drive and boot once without it attached (Note how the cable looks before you remove it as mentioned below).

Then reconnect it (being careful about re-connecting: the plug only goes one way. If there is a red edge it goes to the right. There might also be a slot on the plug to match the port. Just never force it.)

Reboot and see if XP re-detects it.

If I understand correctly you want to boot a floppy?

If so this setting is in your BIOS Setup.

Most are accessed by pressing the Delete key right after Power On.

Some use F2 some use Esc

In the BIOS Setup look for the Boot tab and then Boot order and set the floppy as first boot device; the CD as second and the hard drive as third.
