hello everybody,
I have a problem which is driving me nuts. My cpu fan is very very noisy (motherboard Asus P5AD2 deluxe).
According to Asus probe and AI-booster my temperature is at 60c, which i don't beleive is too hot. The fan, however is turning at 100% 4440 NUTS! All i'm doing is surfing!
The only other fans i have is the chassis fan and the one in the graphic card (ati allinwonder x1800xl)
I tried to force down the fan speed with SpeedFan to 70%, it worked and the temperature rose only slightly. However, this only works when speed fan is active, i don't think it's a solution.
Any ideas please?
zurzu

is the fan covered in dust?

If the CPU usage is over 75% this might be expected.
At 60° C I would expect (and want) the fan to be running 100%.
If your CPU usage is idle (0>5%) and the temp is 60° C I would perhaps change and clean the thermal compound and or consider liquid cooling.
Otherwise if the noise is a mechanical noise rather than just air noise you might consider a new ball bearing fan or oiling the one you have.

This has lead to the fan running at 69% 2280 (very quiet) but the temperature is at 57c. it's very, very calm, but then again, all i'm doing is surfing/typing.
Reading your post though, i assume it's still too hot! However, the Q-fan setting was at 66c (by default)...
thanks again,

CPU Z is a good little tool for CPU; motherboard and RAM information. I am just curious of the exact ID of your CPU. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz doesn't exactly pin point the exact CPU. I am curious if it is listed as a Prescott model as they tend to run hotter than most.
Also open your Task Manager > Performance and see what your CPU usage is. The Task Manager can be opened by right clicking an empty area of the task bar (bottom by the clock).
The cooler your CPU is the better it works and the longer it will last.
I have a 3.20GHz Prescott that with the standard fan ran idle at @ 50° C which I thought was too hot but that appeared to be normal for that processor.
That is what led me to installing liquid cooling which lowered the idle temp to @ 32° C.
All that being said I might just be overly sensitive as to heat issues but when you are in the upper 60's or 70's then you are putting a heavy load on that CPU.
