    no beeps

i have a p4 478 that will power up, and that's it. I've replaced (or troubleshooted with known working parts) the video card, power supply, and RAM. I've also cleared the CMOS with that two pin jumper and replaced the battery. I can't think of anything else to do to get this to beep or display something on the screen! Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi and welcome to D-A-L

    has it ever powered up?

    was the motherboard new?

have you tried just the CPU and heatsink/fan nothing else?

what size PSU are you using?

Yes, it has worked, but I bought a new dual core and ended up building a new comp from scratch, so this computer was sitting for a while with no hard drive or disc drive in it and now I'm trying to get it running for a friend. It's an MSI motherboard and a 350w new antec power supply, 2.8 P4 with a nice arctic cooler. I tried removing the RAM and video card (so it's just the CPU, nothing else, but it does the same thing. I think the motherboard is fried - I must have messed it up when I took it apart like a year ago.

Thanks for your input, it is really appreciated.

was the motherboard kept in an antstatic bag, were you careful with ESD when you removed it?

I kept the board screwed into its old case, but I must say that my little experience in building and swapping parts had yet to show me what happens when you are not careful with ESD, as I had never broken anything. Until now. I'm afraid I was pretty wreckless putting this together, not really worrying much about static. I'll be much more careful when I buy a new one. I'm pretty sure this thing is a lost cause.

Thanks to all who thought about this problem, and extra thanks to those who posted.

you're not the first who's had problems when building a PC (I've had more than enough problems) and you wont be the last.

thanks for the thanks we're a friendly bunch on here
