RAM Compatibility Help?
I have just purchased 1G of DDR400 ram. I was running on 3 x 512mb DDR400 giving me 1.5G. The 1G installed and ran ok, but would only fire up with one of the 512 mb's installed. It would not fire up with any combination of the other two installed. Replacing all three 512's - no problem! All are the same manufacture (V-data).
The only discrepancy I can see, in the specs, the 1G and the 512 that work say DDR400(3), and the two that dont are DDR400(2.5), although all three 512's run together in spite of that difference.
Any advice or suggestions gratefully recieved.

I would check your BIOS Setup > Advanced > DRAM Latency
Is it set at 2.5? I believe that is default. Anyway I would try the other options (try 3.0) just as a test.
If that doesn't work try to lower it. My ASUS has the options of: 1.5 - 2.0 - 2.5 - 3.0

Tried altering CAS latency (my card has settings for Auto, 2, 2.5, 3). No setting worked with any RAM other than the previously mentioned 1G + 512MB (both at 3).
Also tried two different sets of 512 ram from a friends computer,(both V-Data and 2.5), with no success. Would a Bios upgrade help?

Had reply from V-Data, who don't recommend mixing CL3 & 2.5 RAM. Have bitten bullet, bought another 1G stick of matching CL3 RAM, which seems to be working OK. This would now appear to be as resolved as it is going to be!
Thanks
