switched pc off at wall and now its permantly "asleep"

I was in a hurry as I was going out so I just flicked the switch on the back of the computer and it has since broken the computer.
When I turn it on it just acts as if it is "asleep" with the monitor light being amber instead of green and theres no responce from the keyboard and none of the lights on it turn on.
The PC lights stay on as if its running normally.

    Since it has been broken...
...I had left it without the power lead in for a few weeks and I decided to start it up, it was all going well, i got the windows xp screen with the blue loading bar, so I went to get my mouse to plug into it (it had been in my laptop) and when I had came back it was "asleep" again.
When it is first turned on it make the usual noises but everything just acts as if the pc is turned off/asleep.
The only thing that is lit up is the power light and to start with thte HDD light but that goes off.

    Any ideas anyone??

    Thanks

    Pete

it does the usual noises, on another forum I have been told to disconnect all of the CD drives and since doing that it boots up, he said that theres a problem with the mobo and it sending out power all around the circuit??
