Memory Upgrade Question
I have just added another 512mb or DDR400 PC3200 Ram to my PC. Before adding this RAM upon starting up I would see that I had approx 512mb of single channel 400. Now having installed the Ram I now have approx 1gig but at 333....!!!
Is this correct??
My PC has an Asus motherboard with a Athlon64 3000 cpu.
I appreciate your help on this one.

Some modern motherboards use RAM on two separate channels. It's a bit hard to explain (to be honest, I don't fully understand it myself) but, in some cases, RAM can run slower if you have two modules running singly on the same channel rather than having one module on each channel running as a pair.
Do you have any documentation from the motherboard manufacturer or memory supplier that may explain how your RAM should be fitted?

Thanks for the reply,
Ok well here goes with regards the manual..For Dual Channel configuration, the total size of memeory modules(s)installed per channel must be the same for better performance(Dimm_A1+DIMM_A2+DIMM_B1+DIMM_B2)
For reference both are mine are on the A channels..ie 512 on both DIMM A1 and DIMMA2
I have read that memory modules of different latency/brand can cause problems...could it be this?
DIMM Support
A-supports one module inserted into either slot, in a single channel memory configuration
B-SUPPORTS ON PAIR OF MODULES INSERTED INTO EITHER YELLOW SLOTS OR THE BLACK SLOTS AS ONE PAIR OF DUEL CHANNEL MEMEORY CONFIGURATION
c-support for 4 modules inserted into the yellow and black slots as two pairs of dual channel memory configuration
My motherboard is a Asus A8V-E Deluxe
thanks once again,
Andy
