    Exclamation Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please can someone help me.....im new to this forum...i am also a member of pchelpforum.com....but all they do ther is ask you the same questions and tell u that you are thick and that they are great.....the story so far......i have just installed a new pi465g asrock motherboard....but i put my 256 ddr ram in the wrong way in the dimm slot 2....it melted a small black chip on the board.....i corrected my error and thankfully my pc still starts up...but if a put another ram stick in the dimm slot inserted the ram stick in the first place( the one that started off the melting chip...) it either freezes during boot up or it freezes whilst running windows....my bios screen shows that there is 2 ddr ram 266 inserted in the two slots but it screws my pc up untill i remove the second one....whats wrong? my exact pc specs are:

intel celeron 2.4ghz socket 478 processor( currently overclocked to 2.6ghz)
256(pc 266) ddr ram- 1X spare aswell...not inserted at present
2X 10gig hard drives......no smart comments please....as im upgrading, lol
voodoo 5500....display card....not inserted ( using onboard intel extreme graphics at present)
    cdwr
samsung dvd- really crap.....would not recomend.....

to top it off, my pc is running slower than when i was using my old p4xfcu mobo.....anyone wanting to see specs on my new mobo should look on www.aria.co.uk under 478 socket mobos. would the damaged dimms socket make my pc run slower than it should.....oh my temps and fans are all ok.....please help!!! thanks

    Hi and welcome to D-A-L

you've either damaged the slot the RAM goes into or damaged the stick of RAM

how would i know? would i be able to put ram that i know works in to dimm slot number 2, which is the one i think is broken and would it start up the computer....can dimms slots be replaced...and would that be the cause of my pc running slow even though im not using the dodgy dimms slot at the mo?

    what do u think?

the dodgy RAM stick would cause problems.
as well as the DIMM socket you may have damaged a connection on the motherboard

the DIMM sockets cannot be replaced without unsoldering them from the motherboard

Not strictly true Sniper210010! You have received a good deal of support from PC Help Forum.com over the past 2 weeks and at no point have we intimated anything like your comment. Our responses have been polite and helpful. At one point you were talking about overclocking but we (again politely) warned you against it as we felt that the knowledge you had shown up until that point could have led you to possibly damaging your PC.

I am glad that you have found another free help site and I know that the guys/girls here do an excellent job...some of the Staff here are members of ours Good luck with your future problems.

For anyone that's interested, here are Snipers posts:

Although oddly enough the first answer here was similar to the advice you had already received here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/motherboa...burnt-out.html

although the info put my way wasn't sufficiant enough for me to deal with my problem quickly end efficiantly....not once did i get a simple answer
    - so why the thanks then?

Nevermind, it's all water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. People can make up their own minds about the support you received @ PCHF by reading the link and the posts contained within. I don't know how to be sarcastic, although maybe I should try if I am so good at it

Good luck & no need to apologise...I think the point has already been made.
