My CD ROM drive and CD rewriter have stopped working. They don't appear in my computer. If I put a disc in either of them it spins but nothing happens. Help!!!!!! lol

I have just had the same thing happen to me. I was fiddling with my BIOS and changed some of the settings in there, it was no longer look for them.
I cahnged the drive settings and it works fine
dont know of it will work for you
A point to add is that it will spin up as the power supplied to it is not dynamic. Therefore it will always spin up, as long as the PSU is supplying it, wether the data is going anywhere is a different story altogether, i would definately have alook at your bios settings and your device manager...
Are they both on the same channel? Does the BIOS detect them?Originally Posted by Jaynee

If the BIOS detects them but XP does not I would suggest removing the IDE ribbon and Power connection to both drives. Reboot once without them connected. Shut down again and attach the Master only then boot again. Does that get detected? If so shut down again and try to add the slave.
Thanks, I reckon that the IDE ribbon isn't connected. I lent my floppy drive to someone so it may have got disconnected when it was taken out. So at the moment I have no floppy or disc drives.I will have a look inside the case when I get the floppy drive back.
