My toshiba Satellite is about three years old and has started intermittently connecting to my provider and the message returned is that no dial tone was found. If I jiggle the cord or reseat it in the jack if may or may not solve the problem.
I have tied to open the cover gently without moving the laptop with some sucess but not always.
I am very much a novice and would appreciate any help.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

Could you please describe your connection in detail? Laptop with an Ethernet connection to a Modem?

Also if you describe in more detail this jiggling and re-seating? Are you disconnecting from the modem? Are you cutting the power to the modem? Then afterwards it works?

Also if you could describe in more detail about opening the cover etc.

Are you opening the laptop? What are you doing in there?
