Exclamation Front ports on the panel inaccessible

    Hi,

Ive always wanted to ask this question.

It seems that my ports on the front panel of the system (headphone, mic) arent working. I guess they are the USB ports. I can't listen anything when trying to listen it thru my headphones. I am currently using speakers to listen through the slots on the back panel of the computer.

Do i have to install or enable something prior to this? Sorry I am a computer-illiterate

    Thanks!

These are not USB ports. The headphones and mic are single pin audio/stereo jacks/ports.

USB ports are small rectangular slots.

Anyway in many cases they are wired thru the case to the rear ports. If this is the case then you need to open the case and connect these wires to the rear ports. In this scenario if you want both front and rear options you will need a "Y" splitter for each port at the rear.

Another possibility is that your motherboard has front panel audio connectors that are not connected. Does your case have front panel USB? If yes do these work?

Do you know the make and model of your case?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the front panel has front USB ports which do work.

For your second question, I am not really sure. I bought it at MDG computers. If you can tell me how I can figure this out, Id appreciate it.

It is difficult not knowing the specific case.

Many cases with front USB and mic/phones have the USB wired directly to the motherboard, however, the mic/phones need to be wired thru the case. What I mean by this, (and perhaps the quickest way to find out is look inside), is that you will have two wires inside your case with the green and pink single stereo plugs as you see on the rear of your case. The idea here is to take these wire out of the back of the case and use the rear ports for these plugs. That then activates the front ports.

If you desire both front and rear ports then you need "Y" splitters.

As I say many cases are setup this way although certainly not all. If you open your case and see these 2 wires with the green and pink stereo plugs then this is the situation.
