    ethernet modem

Right OK... Ive got an ethernet modem...
ive set it up to test it works before i start fixing my wireless to it... however i cant access the internet... what am i doing wrong?

    what ive done:
Plugged the modem into the mains...
plugged the USB into the modem from the PC
Plugged the DSL cable from the phone line to the back of the modem.

so all ports are "filled" (apart from where i will connect the wireless to the ethernet port)! but im sure its something i have done- rather than the technology!

should i be puttijng something in the ethernet port now??

    any advice please?

    cheers

the only connections you need are the connection to the phone line, the mains lead and plug a Ethernet cable from the modem to the router and to set it up a Ethernet cable from the router to the PC.

you'll not need the USB connection

    Cheers...

As im testing it without the router at the moment- what do i need to set it up to get online..?
just the ethernet cable from modem to the PC? and the mains lead and plug and the phone line, and NO USB....?

I think the issue might be that i need to install new drivers?

    cheers

My friend has confirmed all i need to do is install "bt voyager 205 driver" which i believe i can dl from the net....?
I thought things like modems would be universal. What exactly is a driver ???
why do you need different drivers for different hardwares?

    cheers

I don't think you'll need drivers for the modem as you'l be connecting with an ethernet cable not USB

ok thanks, i know what i need to do.. i think..!
i need to plug an ethernet cable from the modem to the router to the "internet" port and then plug an ethernet cable from the back of the PC into the "1" port on the router...
plus do the rest as ive said above...

you need an ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on the router and an ethernet cable from 1 of the LAN ports on the router to the NIC on the PC

turn of the modem and router once connected then power up it should all reset and find each other
